Semantic Enrichment of Ontology Mappings: Detecting Relation Types and Complex Correspondences

چکیده

While there are numerous tools for ontology matching, most approaches provide only little information about the true nature of the correspondences they discover, restricting themselves on the mere links between matching concepts. However, many disciplines such as ontology merging, ontology evolution or data transformation, require more-detailed information, such as the concrete relation type of matches or information about the cardinality of a correspondence (oneto-one or one-to-many). In this study we present a new approach where we denote additional semantic information to an initial ontology mapping carried out by a state-of-the-art matching tool. The enriched mapping contains the relation type (like equal, is-a, part-of) of the correspondences as well as complex correspondences. We present different linguistic, structural and background knowledge strategies that allow semi-automatic mapping enrichment, and according to our first internal tests we are already able to add valuable semantic information to an existing ontology mapping.

Enriching ontology mappings with semantic relations

There is a large number of tools to match or align corresponding concepts between ontologies. Most tools are restricted to equality correspondences, although many concepts may be related differently, e.g. according to an is-a or part-of relationship. Supporting such additional semantic correspondences can greatly improve the expressiveness of ontology mappings and their usefulness for tasks suc...

Semantic Enrichment of Ontology Mappings

Schema and ontology matching play an important part in the field of data integration and semantic web. Given two heterogeneous data sources, meta data matching usually constitutes the first step in the data integration workflow, which refers to the analysis and comparison of two input resources like schemas or ontologies. The result is a list of correspondences between the two schemas or ontolo...

Semantic Enrichment of Ontology Mappings: A Linguistic-Based Approach

There are numerous approaches to match or align ontologies resulting into mappings specifying semantically corresponding ontology concepts. Most approaches focus on finding equality correspondences between concepts, although many concepts may not have a strict equality match in other ontologies. We present a new approach to determine more expressive ontology mappings supporting different kinds ...

An Improved Semantic Schema Matching Approach

Schema matching is a critical step in many applications, such as data warehouse loading, Online Analytical Process (OLAP), Data mining, semantic web [2] and schema integration. This task is defined for finding the semantic correspondences between elements of two schemas. Recently, schema matching has found considerable interest in both research and practice. In this paper, we present a new impr...

Constructing Complex Semantic Mappings Between XML Data and Ontologies

Much data is published on the Web in XML format satisfying schemas, and to make the Semantic Web a reality, such data needs to be interpreted with respect to ontologies. Interpretation is achieved through a semantic mapping between the XML schema and the ontology. We present work on the heuristic construction of complex such semantic mappings, when given an initial set of simple correspondences...
